Honoring Col. Raymond John Cully (Ret.)

We pay tribute to Col. Raymond John Cully, whose remarkable service and dedication have profoundly impacted both his military career and his contributions as a mentor. His legacy extends far beyond his distinguished military achievements, reflecting a life dedicated to guiding and supporting others.

Col. Cully’s illustrious career began with his commissioning through the ROTC program at Central Michigan University in 1969. His service as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War was marked by exceptional bravery and skill. After transitioning to Military Intelligence in 1975, he went on to command the Special Intelligence Squadron, where his strategic leadership in sensitive intelligence operations earned him high-level recognition from the U.S. Government. His work, briefed to Congress and the President, highlighted his critical role in national security.

Following his retirement from active duty in 1997, Col. Cully transitioned to a successful career in the civilian sector as Vice President for Government and Military Sales with International Cruise and Excursions. Yet, it was his commitment to mentorship that truly exemplified his dedication to service.

Col. Cully devoted significant time and wisdom to mentoring our program, offering invaluable guidance to navigate the many challenges of running a central nonprofit organization. His insights and strategic advice helped shape our approach, fostering growth and resilience. Col. Cully's mentorship was marked by his ability to impart practical knowledge and inspire confidence, equipping us to address complex issues with clarity and effectiveness.

His contributions went beyond mere advice; they were a testament to his belief in the power of leadership and dedication to the mission. Col. Cully's impact on our program was profound, providing both direction and inspiration to those involved.

Even as he faced the challenges of ALS, Col. Cully remained steadfast in his commitment to mentoring, showing the same courage and resilience that defined his service. His ability to maintain a positive outlook and offer support despite his own struggles is a testament to his strength of character.

Col. Cully’s legacy as a mentor and leader will continue to guide and inspire us. His dedication to both military and nonprofit service exemplifies the values of honor, commitment, and excellence. We are deeply grateful for his contributions and celebrate a life that has left an enduring impact on our organization and beyond.
