Case Study

The Challenge

Faith was looking to learn more about technology. She entered our Girls can type program in 2016; she quickly learned to type 35 WPM and graduated to our Dream Program.  Her dream coach recognized her need for a more challenging curriculum, to put it frankly, she was suffering from a school that was not academically challenging, in addition, this lack of challenge was affecting her behaviour due to boredom.  Faith needed to find a more challenging environment without the added expense of a private school.

The Solution

Kids Can Succeed found the top academic school in the area (based on test scores). The school selected was BASIS Goodyear located 20 Miles away.  Faith transferred from Paradise Honors Middle School and enrolled at ASIS Goodyear for the upcoming school year.  The dream program provided transportation and support for attending the new school.

The Result

Faith had never received a grade lower than A in her previous school.  In fact she had considered herself to be the top in her class at Paradise Honors Middle School. Her first year in BASIS Goodyear , she received a C letter grade in both Algebra and Physics.  The curriculum at BASIS Goodyear compared to the old curriculum at  Paradise Honors School was extremely challenging.  Faith went from having no homework to an average of 3 hours of homework per night at her new school.

In Faith’s Own Words

BASIS was so much harder than Paradise Honors, I really didn’t know that other 6th graders were taking Physics and algebra.   It was very hard for me to adjust at first, but as time went on, I really started to enjoy the new routine.

Q: What is the biggest difference between Paradise Honors and B.A.S.I.S?
BASIS Goodyear is a much smaller school and has so much more diversity, the kids are all of different backgrounds and races. BASIS is super hard compared to Paradise Honors.

Q: Did you notice a difference in the the wat the students talk or behave?
Yes, the BASIS kids use bigger words, and they know how to talk to adults, BASIS kids are more accountable. They know how to talk to adults.

Q: What do you not like most about BASIS Goodyear.?
The amount of homework.

Q: What are your plans as you enter High School?
I am still in 8th grade but I want to graduate early and I want to go to University in Colorado or California , maybe law school.

Parent Assessment

We have watched Faith grow from a young girl into a young lady and the biggest difference we recognized is her ambition really increased with the change of schools. She wants to go into law and talks about college constantly. The move has been excellent, we never would have made this change by ourselves we are grateful for the Kids Can Succeed Team for pushing us on this path.
